This person has a soul that radiates warmth and light and one would be drawn to this person for their spiritualism. I was reminded of a nickname given to a person "Meringue". Think about the qualities of meringue. Full of air, nice to look at, but not a lot of substance. To top it off, only half the negative space compared to the others making this vessel rather shallow. However on the inside, barnacles, a razor blade, broken glass and rusty barbed wire all put together with suggested intestines and a pool of blood on the bottom. Then there is the thorns for teeth. I love turning spheres. One day I was looking for something else to do with a sphere and was thinking about how most hollow forms are dealt with. Many of these pieces the focus is supposed to be on the exterior. I wanted to make the focus on the interior. I thought about how the exterior can often be the focus of many things, both animate and inanimate. I happened to read an article on teen bullying and was reminded of the expression "Don't judge a book by it's cover". I now had a theme and I call this series "Know The Soul". I would like to see these pieces on a plinth where the observer first notices the exterior and may make a judgement. Some are weathered, some are larger, have cracks and the opening is different. But the real story is on the interior.
